A tightly contested league game ended in defeat for the boys in red and blue on Saturday.
Despite a strong turn out and a good sized crowd to offer encouragement the legs just weren’t there in the second half.
Things started brightly with 2 penalty’s concerted over the posts by Paul Wakelin as well as a rare try by Colin Farrenden after some superb pressure defence in the oppositions 22. Berkhamsted went into the half 13-5 up.
UCSOB started the second half brightly and scored two tries back to back within the space of 10 minutes. The lack of training and general fitness continued to show as the Berko players weren’t able to cover the line in defence and were caught out wide twice more.
Despite the poor start to the half Ollie Green pulled one back after a strong scrum saw them wheel there way over in the corner to make it a 7 point game with 10 to go.
With a few players carrying injuries there just wasn’t enough gas left in the tank to make the Hollywood style comeback that was needed.
Up next we welcome Chesham to Cow Roast this coming Saturday. There are a lot of positives to take into the game from this week in what should be another tight league game.
